BIOGRAPHY
Ashton Davies is an American composer and horn player. Born in 2004, he began studying the horn in 2015. His performance experiences include performing solo, chamber, wind ensemble, and orchestral music.
Davies began writing music in 2021 following many years of “beat-making” in a more trap, hip-hop style. In 2022, he was named a Charlie Coté Scholarship winner after competing in a composition competition, and in 2024 a work of his was selected to be played at the 2024 CFAMC Conference held in Houghton, NY. In 2025, he was the recipient of The B. Falkenberg Fogg Scholarship for his dedication and investment in music. Davies is a huge fan of Williams, Adams, Herrmann, Bartók, Stravinsky, Ravel, and M. Richter, and is currently experimenting with writing for both concert performance and film.
As a performer, Davies is an advocate for new music. In 2022, he was named an 'Outstanding Wind and Percussion Musician,' awarded to musicians with notable performance skills and in 2023 he was the Runner-up in the Wheaton College Concerto Competition Winds and Percussion Division performing the first half of John Williams’ virtuosic ‘Horn Concerto.’ Most recently, in 2024 he won the Winds and Percussion Division in that same competition on the second half of John Williams’ ‘Horn Concerto,’ and had the opportunity to perform it with the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra. He has also premiered multiple new works by his collegiate colleagues in the Biannual Composer Concerts at Wheaton College.
Davies has acted in many administrative roles as well. He has been the Freshman Representative and Social Chair for the Wheaton College Symphonic Band, and the Junior Representative for the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music.
Currently a senior studying music composition at Wheaton College in Illinois, Davies is a member of the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers (CFAMC).
